Registering a vehicle in Maryland will increase by 60 percent this summer. The Maryland Vehicle Administration (MVA) announced that, effective July 1, registration fees will increase to $110 per year, or $220 for two years, an $85 increase over the current $135 two-year registration fee. According to the MVA, fees have not been increased since 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Drivers opting for the Chesapeake Bay or Agricultural plates will pay an additional fee. Drivers who recently re-registered their vehicles will not be impacted until the registrations expire in 2025 or later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MVA said the agency is required to adjust rates to support the Maryland Transportation Trust Fund for the maintenance and repair of state roads and the state\u2019s emergency medical services and trauma care. The increased rates are comparable to those nationwide, the agency said.
